I am delighted to let you know about my recently completed permanent, site-specific art installation, Dance, for the Mary Brown Science Center at Agnes Scott College. The College commissioned the work as a memorial to alumna Elizabeth R. Griffin.

Elizabeth R. Griffin (1975-1997) was an artistic, intelligent, and compassionate young woman who met a tragic and premature death while pursuing her life as a scientist. At the time of her death, Beth was a research assistant at the Yerkes Regional Primate Research Center at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. At Yerkes, Beth was engaged in behavioral research involving Rhesus macaques. She died after contracting a virus from one of the monkeys. The Elizabeth R. Griffin Foundation was created in her honor.

Dance articulates the circular forms and movement often seen in my paintings. Beth was described to me as a person whose charismatic personality had the verve and energy of my artwork. This four-story work for will honor the memory of a wonderful young woman who danced, and loved art and science, and lived with a passion. Dance was dedicated in a ceremony held on the Agnes Scott campus on April 18, 2008.
